At Clarifai, we’re always striving to be a model of diversity and inclusion in the tech world. We were super excited to have the chance to host New York City’s Women in Machine Learning & Data Science meetup last week, where over fifty people crowded into our humble startup abode to chow down on pizza and listen to some Clarifools (catchy, huh) talk about machine learning and visual recognition.

Our CEO Matt Zeiler gave an enlightening talk on his PhD work in machine learning and convolutional neural networks – for those of you who missed it, we’ve uploaded his presentation to Slideshare so you can relive the glory:

Then, our magnificent developer evangelist Cassidy Williams shared some cool projects our hackers have built with Clarifai’s API:

  • Remember – an app that helps you remember where you put your stuff, silly forgetful human.
  • Reminisc – an app that lets users rediscover their old photos and drown in nostalgia.
  • Netra – a mobile app that helps blind people see their surroundings.
  • Hued – a photo-based color palette generator for the interior designer or fashionista in you.

Whether you’re a man or a woman, if you’re in NYC and interested in machine learning and data science, you should join WiMLDS … it’s a great group of people! Or, if you’re already part of a club or group, let us know – we host events and meetups for the developer community almost every week. Just tweet us @Clarifai!
