Clarifai Bounties Official Contest Rules

Purpose.   These Rules apply to each Clarifai Bounty Contest offered by Clarifai and linked to these Rules (each individually. a “Bounty Contest;” collectively, “the Contests”) . The Contests are designed to discover innovative applications (“hacks”) that use the Clarifai Application Program Interface (“API”).  The Bounty Contests and all entries are subject to and governed by the Clarifai Terms of Use Agreement (at, the Clarifai Privacy Policy (at and these Official Contest Rules (the “Rules”). Submitting an entry to a Bounty Contest signifies that you have read and consent to be bound by these Rules.

Sponsor.  The Sponsor of the Bounty Contests is Clarifai, Inc. 115 E. 23rd St., New York, NY 10010.  The Bounty Contests are not sponsored or endorsed by any third party, including without limitation, the New York Public Library, Fitbit, Middle-Earth Enterprises, Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter, Google, Apple, J.K. Rowling, Warner Brothers, The Pokemon Company, or Uber.  

Eligibility.  To be eligible to enter a Bounty Contest, an entrant (“Entrant”) must be over the age of eighteen (18) and a legal resident in the United States.   Immediate family members (i.e., parents, children, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces or nephews) of Clarifai employees may not be eligible to enter or to win.  The Bounty Contests are void where prohibited by law.

How To Enter.  To enter a Bounty Contest, visit the Clarifai Bounties website located at _ (“Contest Site”) during the Contest Period and register for one or more of the Bounty Contests by sending a live demo of your hack which meets the Requirements discussed below to, along with the name of the Bounty Contest that your hack relates to in the subject line of the e-mail with your hack. Participation in the Bounty Contests is voluntary and does not require you to purchase anything from Clarifai.  No illegible, incomplete or forged entries will be accepted, and no entries will be returned.  Clarifai is not responsible for late, lost, damages, or undeliverable hacks under any circumstances. For clarity and without limitation, Clarifai may reproduce, modify, display and otherwise use the hack, or portions thereof, for promotional purposes in any medium without additional compensation.


Contest Period.  The Competition begins on March 1, 2016 (ET) in the United States and ends on the date specified on the bounty page at 11:59 PM ET (the “Contest Period”).   All dates and times for the Contest Period are subject to change.  Clarifai in its sole discretion may extend the Contest Period if it has not received at least three (3) eligible entries during the Contest Period.

Requirements and Contest Criteria.   Each of the Bounty Contests has different requirements that hacks must include, including the following (collectively, “Requirements”):

  1. Emojifai Hack: Must incorporate the use of emojis;
  2. New York Public Library Hack: Must incorporate the New York Public Library digital collection API at;
  3. Heartifai Hack: Must pair Clarifai’s visual recognition technology with a biometric tracking device;
  4. Lord of the Rings Hack: Must be a non-commercial hack that draws on inspiration from Lord of the Rings;
  5. Forever Alone Hack: Must eliminate images of happy couples from social media feeds;
  6. Harry Potter Hack: Must be a non-commercial hack that draws upon inspiration from the world of Harry Potter;
  7. Pokemon Hack: Must be a non-commercial hack that draws upon inspiration from Pokemon; and
  8. Uber Hack: Must use Uber for Developers at  
  9. Clarifornication Hack: Must use Clarifai’s NSFW model.
  10. Color Hack: Must use Clarifai’s color model.
  11. Wordpres Plugin: Must create a plugin for WordPress.
  12. Blog Post: Must write a blog post featuring Clarifai.

As part of the Requirements, each hack must also incorporate a Clarifai API, and each hack must contain a live demonstration of the hack in the form of a webapp, mobile app, or video.  Each hack that meets the Requirements will be evaluated by a panel of judges based upon the following criteria (the “Contest Criteria”): creativity, design, technical skill, and adherence to the Contest Criteria.  Your hack must be original, unpublished work that does not contain, incorporate or otherwise use any content, material or element that is owned by a third party or entity, or that violates a third party’s publicity, privacy or intellectual property rights.  Clarifai reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify hacks which Clarifai determines at any time in its sole judgment fail to meet any of the Contest Criteria or these Rules.  The winning hack will be determined by Clarifai in its sole discretion.

  • OWNERSHIP/USE OF ENTRIES:  By submitting a hack, you agree that the Clarifai and its designees may edit, publish, use, adapt, exploit, modify, copy, disseminate or dispose of any hack, the concepts embodied therein or any elements thereof, proper names, online, in print, film, television, social media, or in any other media now known or hereafter devised for advertising and promotional purposes worldwide in perpetuity without compensation or notification to or permission from the participant of any kind, except as prohibited by law.
  • Selection of Winners.  The panel of judges, in its sole and absolute discretion, will select the single (1) hack from among all eligible entries that comply with these Rules for each Bounty Contest. The selected hack will be the potential winner of the corresponding Bounty Contest.  Decisions of the panel are final and binding.  If a potential winner is unable for whatever reason to accept his or her prize, Clarifai reserves the right to award the prize to another entrant. Clarifai reserves the right to decline to select a winner if, in the sole discretion of the panel of judges, there are insufficient eligible entries for the Bounty Contest.
  • Winner Notification.  Potential winners will be notified by email within two (2) weeks from the end of the Contest Period. If a potential winner does not respond within three (3) days, the potential winner may be disqualified and Clarifai shall select another potential winner.  Winner may be required to sign and return a publicity release prior to being awarded the Prize. The winner and a copy of these Rules will be available at the Contest Site and upon request once the winner is selected, and for 90 days thereafter.
  • Prize.    Up to five (5) winners for each Bounty Contest shall be selected. Prizes will include the items specified on the individual Bounty page, not exceeding a value of $200 USD. Teams are eligible to win prizes. In cases of physical prizes (e.g. skateboards), each individual team member will receive a prize. In cases of monetary prizes (e.g. gift cards), the total prize value must be split among individual team members.

    No transfer, substitution or cash equivalent for prizes is allowed, except at Clarifai’s sole discretion.  Clarifai reserves the right to substitute a prize, in whole or in part, of equal or greater monetary value if a prize cannot be awarded, in whole or in part, as described for any reason.
  • General Conditions.  All federal, state and local laws and regulations apply and the Bounty Contests are void where prohibited by law.  Clarifai reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant from the Bounty Contests if, in Clarifai’s sole discretion, it reasonably believes that the Entrant has attempted to undermine the legitimate operation of the Bounty Contests by cheating, deception, or other unfair playing practices or annoys, abuses, threatens or harasses any other entrants, Clarifai  or the Judges.
  • Contest Cancellation or Modification. If for any reason the Bounty Contests are not capable of running as planned, including infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, fraud, technical failures, or any other causes which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity, or proper conduct of the Bounty Contests, Clarifai reserves the right at its sole discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the Bounty Contests.
  • Privacy.  Entrants agree that personal data submitted with a hack, including name, mailing address, phone number, and email address may be collected, processed, stored and otherwise used by Clarifai and its affiliates for the purposes of conducting and administering the Bounty Contests. We may also use your personal information to send you updates on Clarifai and promotional materials from time to time. The Entrant’s name may be displayed along with Entrant’s hack on Clarifai’s website and on Clarifai’s social media pages.  
  • Warranty and Indemnity.  Entrants warrant that their hack is their own original work and, as such, they are the sole and exclusive owner and rights holder of the submitted hack and that they have the right to submit the hack in the Bounty Contests and grant all required licenses including as set forth in these Rules. Each Entrant agrees not to submit any hack that: (a) infringes any third party proprietary rights, intellectual property rights, industrial property rights, personal or moral rights or any other rights, including without limitation, copyright, trademark, trade names, industrial designs, patent, trade secret, privacy, publicity or confidentiality obligations; or (b) otherwise violates applicable state, federal, or local law.
  • Forum and recourse to judicial procedures.  These Rules shall be governed by, subject to, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, United States of America, excluding all conflict of law rules. If any provision(s) of these Rules are held to be invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions hereof will remain in full force and effect. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, seek injunctive relief or make any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with the Bounty Contests are hereby excluded, and Entrants expressly waive any and all such rights.
  • Taxes.  All taxes imposed on the prize are the sole responsibility of the winner. Potential winners may be required to submit required information or documentation to a relevant tax authority, as required by applicable law, in order to be awarded a prize.
